Becky welcomes your questions and comments.

CIVIC JANUARY MEETING
G.S. - The Golden Shores Civic Association general meeting was Wednesday evening. Supervisor Buster Johnson talked about what is going on in the Colorado City and Arizona Strip area. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is keeping pressure on the religious group that is retaining children as wives and bearers of children. The sheriff's office reports that they do not intend to let up pressure on the group until it breaks up.
Phil Villamor brought up the issue of trash being dumped. Apparently some people are dumping trash along Polaris road and possibly other places. This is a major issue and anytime you see anyone hauling or dumping trash in our vicinity, try to be alert and get a license plate number and description, but DO NOT attempt to confront the people. This is something "that is going on in our own backyards", said Villamor, "and we need to keep our eyes open and report to the sheriff any suspicious activities."

ROADWORK TO CAUSE DELAYS
Lake Havasu City - ADOT crews will be working on State Route 95 near the Lake Havasu airport and is expected to cause some traffic slowdowns. The work will take place near the entrance to Home Depot, at the Centre Boulevard intersection. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and speed reduced to 25 miles an hour. As there's no alternate route through the area. Motorists are advised to add extra time to their travel plans.
Also look for work crews to reduce the highway to one lane between Kiowa Boulevard and Chenoweth in order to continue paving, and traffic will be shifted back and forth so commuters should expect delays or should find alternate routes. The work is part of the $19 million widening of the highway, and is expected to be completed by spring of this year.

SHERIFF RUNNING AGAIN
Kingman - Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan is expected to announce that he's running for re-election. Sheriff Sheahan will be seeking a third term as the county's top law enforcement official.

WANTED: FIRE FIGHTERS
Golden Valley - Volunteer Firefighters are needed in Golden Valley due to the rapid growth of the area in the past few years. The area has about 9,000 residents and only six volunteers that assist 15 paid firefighters. The limited staffing only allows crews to respond to three calls at one time. In addition to needing volunteer firefighters, the department has an opening on its fire district governing board. Noel LaBonte resigned from the five-person board on Tuesday. For more information call 565-3479.

GOING FOR BUSTER'S JOB
Lake Havasu City - Another person has stepped up to run for the District 3 Mohave County Supervisor seat according to the Elections Department. Richard Zalewski filed a statement of organization which is one way of announcing candidacy for a position. This brings the total to three Republicans running in the district with Dick Elewaut and incumbent Supervisor Buster Johnson already in the running.

COLLEGE GOING INTERNET
Kingman - Mohave Community College is upgrading its online class capabilities. Many people are not familiar with the way distance education works, the way you can take online classes now. That scares a lot of people. The platform that works thru the web is called blackboard. And it is what all colleges use, not just us. Most rural colleges use blackboard as their server for their internet classes. The college is planning on some demonstrations of the courses, so people can become more comfortable with them.

EDITOR NEEDED
The editor of this paper AND The Civic needs an assistant. I need someone that I can train to possibly take over in the event something happens to me. Besides, this little paper is growing very fast and there is going to be room for expansion soon. It would be part time work, but you must be quite computer literate. There is no pay from the Civic Association, so the hours and pay are low, but great potential. If interested, call me at 768-1400 or email ys@goldenshores.net.

    WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, May we be about Your business today as Jesus grows in us, may He increase while we decrease. May the light of His love shine thru us as we touch lives around us. Lord draw us by Your spirit into a closer fellowship with You. As we learn to enter into Your kingdom we know all things will be added to us. Let us then seek those good things from above that never rust or fade away or lose their value. Touch the hearts of those who don't know You that they would be receptive to Your love and grace.
We pray and ask these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen
